Angelina Jolie is truly a thing of the past when it comes to the new Tomb Raider movie reboot, with Alicia Vikander effortlessly stamping her mark all over the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming release. Based on the hugely successful 2013 video game, the film will tell the origins story for the iconic gaming character, and we can’t wait to get our bums in cinema seats and watch the action unfold! For now, however, a brand new trailer has been released, which you can check out below:
Investigating the mystery surrounding her father’s (Dominic West) death, Lara will embark on an adventure that pushes her to the limits of her strengths, forcing her to use an inner skill and natural talent for exploration that she never even knew she had. Intelligent, like her father, she’s forced to work alongside the villainous Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins); a man who has been searching for the tomb that she finds over the past seven years.
Also having to deal with a group known as The Trinity, which, in her father’s world, are looking to set off a “global genocide”, Lara is facing some of the toughest trials she could ever go up against. All this after she sets out to carve her own path rather than taking over the reins of her father’s global empire. The latter may have been a little easier, but Lara never does things by halves!
Directed by Roar Uthaug, Tomb Raider will serve as a full reboot for the big screen world of Lara Croft, and we imagine that if it’s successful, we will see a whole slew of movies with Vikander front-and-centre. If the trailer’s anything to go by, we’re in for an exciting and very bumpy ride.
Tomb Raider comes to cinemas across the UK on March 16, 2018.
