Oscar winner Alicia Vikander has begun work on her new film 'Submergence'.

Following her Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for 'The Danish Girl', the 27-year-old actress has begun work on her next project, which is an epic love story starring James McAvoy, 36, as the male lead.
The Swedish star headed to Europe from Los Angeles on Thursday (03.03.16) to undertake a course in deep sea diving and oceanography to prepare her the role, in which she is set to handle a deep-sea submersible, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
In the film - which is based on J.M. Ledgard's 2011 novel of the same name - Vikander will play marine expert and bio-mathematician Danielle Flinders opposite McAvoy's James More, who she meets at a French hotel over the Christmas period and the pair embark on a four-day romance.
More is later captured by Al Qaeda fighters in Somalia while Flinders takes a voyage into the ocean off the coast of Greenland.
Shooting is set to take place in Germany, Spain, France and the UK and the movie is being directed by 'Pina' filmmaker Wim Winders, who is delighted to get the breakout star on board with McAvoy.
Speaking to Variety, he said: "I'm so excited to work with these two great young actors on 'Submergence'! It is an utterly contemporary story, thrilling and deeply moving at the same time, spanning continents and oceans, facing two big threats to our world today: climate change and terrorism. Alicia and James are the perfect cast for this once in a generation love story: highly sensitive, passionate and fiercely committed."
Before 'Submergence' hits screens next year, the brunette beauty will be seen in the next offering from the 'Jason Bourne' franchise which is set for release this summer.
