Alfonso Cuaron is believed to be in talks to direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a spin off from Harry Potter and Warner Bros have already revealed that they are looking to release the film in November 2016.
Reporter Nikki Finke has now tweeted that Oscar winning filmmaker Cuaron is on talks to helm that project.
J.K Rowling has written the script for the new project: it would be her screenwriting debut.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is not a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter films, and will feature none of the characters from the Harry Potter series.
We last saw Cuaron in the director's chair for the fantastic Gravity: a film for which he won the Best Director Oscar earlier this year.
There is no word yet as to when Warner Bros hope to get filming on the project underway.
