Aaron Taylor-Johnson feels there was a "natural break" between the 'Kick-Ass' movies.

The actor reprises his role as the titular hero in the new superhero comedy movie - which also stars Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse - and he is happy with the three-year gap between the 2010 original and the recently-released 'Kick-Ass 2' because it built up anticipation among fans.

He explained: "We didn't have to do a sequel, but I loved [the script], Chris read it and he loved it, Chloe read it and she loved it, and we all made it happen. It was like putting a band back together and I loved working with all the same guys who did the first one. It was just a really amazing experience.

"By this point, ['Kick-Ass'] had grown into the second most illegally downloaded movie ever under 'Avatar', which is f***ing mad. People started to question, 'When are they making a second one?' It felt really nice ... it had this really natural break and time to let it digest and grow and potentially take characters even further. And it felt nice that we were making a sequel that people were ready to see happen, whereas most movies now ... the sequel's at the cinema and I've barely even seen the first one on DVD and I'm like, 'I don't really care what happens in their life in the second one.' "

The actor enjoyed seeing the growth of the characters between the flicks and was particularly intrigued by Moretz's character, Hit-Girl, who was 11 in 'Kick-Ass' and is 15 in the sequel.

He added to BANG Showbiz: "Seeing Chloe's character physically ... she's changed over four years. Putting her in high school for the first time and, 'How does Hit-Girl deal with that?' - that was interesting to me."

'Kick-Ass 2' is in cinemas now.
