Aaron Taylor-Johnson found it "difficult" to reprise his titular role in 'Kick-Ass 2'.
The 23-year-old actor plays David 'Dave' Lizewski/ Kick-Ass in the forthcoming follow up to the 2010 action comedy, and admits he found it much harder to revisit his alter-ego than he expected because he struggled to recreate the superhero's squeaky voice again.
He said: "Other than it being an American accent, there was a specific tone to it that meets with Dave.
"For the second one, it was difficult to go back to that character."
While he faced difficulties about reprising his role, Taylor-Johnson insists his co-star Jim Carrey, who plays Sal Bertolinni/ Colonel Stars and Stripes in the sequel, put in a "ballsy" performance in his debut in the franchise.
He added to MTV News: "The majority of the time [Carrey] would keep in that character.
"I admire it. I do the same sometimes as well. He brings such enthusiasm and great ideas when he creates characters like it. It's incredible. You're seeing something come to life. It's about being ballsy, making big decisions and being bold and to stick with it."
Carrey recently announced he would not be promoting 'Kick Ass 2' - which is due to be released later this month - in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, last December, in which 20 children and six adults were killed.
He tweeted: "I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. / My apologies to others [involved] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart. (sic)"
