Zoe Saldana has revealed that she would rather quit acting than take on 'the girlfriend' roles.
The Avatar actress admits that she likes to take on strong women in movies and hates the way that women are always portrayed as the damsel in distress.
Speaking to The Scotsman Newspaper the actress said: "Hollywood has made a living out of portraying women as needing to be rescued all the time because we're so incompetent.
"I'd rather quit this business than constantly play the girlfriend of the action hero. Because in reality, if Spider-Man was always coming to my rescue, I'd get to the point of saying, 'Come on, man, I can do it myself!'"
In the last couple of years Saldana has made a career out of playing tough and smart women as she burst onto the scene as Nyota Uhura in Star Trek before going on to Takers, The Losers and of course Avatar.
And while the actress is keen to return to the world of Pandora she believes that the movie may not happen for quite some time. "That could take 10 years. But when it does, I know the second 'Avatar' will be as great as the first one.
"I'll just need some advance warning because it takes about six months to get into that character."
