Zach Galifianakis says that Sarah Palin was a big inspiration for his new comedy The Campaign.
The movie sees the funnyman play an inexperienced political candidate alongside Will Ferrell and he admits that Palin's overnight fame was something that he tapped in to.
Speaking to Reuters the actor said: "There are several people that have been on the national stage that we borrowed from for sure.
"I think the most prevalent example is the Sarah Palin aspect where - and I don't blame Sarah Palin, I blame it on the human ego - when somebody chooses you to do something, you start believing."
The actor added: "If I got hand-picked to do something or was told I was really good at something, I would want to believe it because it sounds nice."
Galifianakis has mixed his film work with TV projects as he has worked on the likes of Bored to Death alongside movies such as The Muppets.
The actor has already completed work on You Are Here and he is set to reprise the role of Alan in The Hangover Part III
The Campaign is released 28th September.
