Zac Efron wants to discover 'cool young directors' as he takes greater control of his career.
The actor has admitted that he wants to have a greater say in his career and the roles that he takes on and starting his own production company will allow to develop projects and uncover talent.
Speaking to Wonderland he said: "Yeah absolutely, I've just started my own production company and something that I'm working on right now is finding cool young directors.
"There's so much young talent our there and these guys aren't afraid to try new things. The whole producing thing is very new to me but I find it fascinating. You know, finally things to develop and not just waiting for scripts to come in because they don't."
And while the actor is best known for his mainstream roles in High School Musical and 17 Again he is keen to take on grittier roles and used Leonardo DiCaprio as an example of an actor who has found his own way.
"Of course I'd love to go and do that kind of stuff, but it's harder to get those things made now. It's about finding those roles but I wouldn't just do it, you know, I have to feel it in here [puts his fist to his chest]. Leo's strengths are, I'd say, different.
But Efron is back on the big screen later this year with his new movie Charlie St Cloud, which reunites him with his 17 Again director Burr Steers.
Art Of The Steel, The Lucky One and an untitled Snabba Cash remake are also in the pipeline.
