Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine has stormed to the top of the American box office in it's opening weekend ending Obsessed's one week reign at the top.

The movie is a prequel to the successful X-Men franchise and the Marvel Comic character Wolverine is the first to get a spin off movie.

Hugh Jackman reprises the role of Logan for a fourth time as the movie delves deeper into his dark past.

Wolverine grossed $87 million at the US box office over the weekend but grossed over $158 million at the global box office.

Matthew McConaughey's new comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was a distant number two taking just over $15 million.

Obsessed had to settle for the number three spot while 17 Again dropped two places to four. But animation film Monsters vs Aliens climbed one place from last week's number six to re-enter the top five.
