X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class has triumphed at the UK box office - ending The Hangover Part II's one week reign as number one.

X-Men: First Class is the first X-Men movie since the release of Wolverine two years ago but the film has been met well by the critics and is already the #1 film in America - I really do smell a sequel.

In 1962, Charles Xavier starts up a school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities.

Among them is Erik Lensherr, his best friend... and future archenemy.

The movie took over £5.4 million in it's opening weekend to comfortably see off the challenge from the Hangover sequel.

The Hangover Part II fell just a single place to number two as the film took a further £3.8 million.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tide fell to three - the film has now taken in excess of $806 million at the global box office. While Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules also fell one to four.

JLS: Eyes Wide Open was the second new entry on the top ten this week as the movie opened at number five.

Documentary film Senna was new at six while Ready, the fourth and final new entry in the top ten thisweek,  was new at seven.

Rio was down two at number eight - it has now spent nine weeks inside the top ten at the UK box office.

Fast & Furious 5 was down four at nine while Thor, which really set the standard for the blockbuster this summer, was this week's biggest faller as it dropped six places to round off the top ten
