Vanessa Hudgens based her Bandslam character in Wednesday Addams.
Bandslam was the first movies role for the young actress since the success of the High School Musical films that shot her to fame.
Speaking to Sugar the actress said: "Don't get me wrong, Gabriella was a great character to play - but she was a lot like myself, sweet and nice!
"Going out of my comfort zone to play the opposite of me and create a whole new person was really exciting," she told Sugar magazine.
"I watched The Addams Family a lot and tapped into Wednesday's deadpan character. Plus I had to wear Dr Martens boots throughout the entire film. It was fun creating a whole new me."
Released last week Bandslam performed well at the box office entering the top ten at number seven.
Hudgens will return to the big screen next year with Beastly, based on the story Beauty and the Beast with Alex Pettyfer. Movie Sucker Punch is also in the pipeline.
