Vanessa Hudgens

Teen queen Vanessa Hudgens, the star of new film Beastly, has been speaking to FILMCLUB - the nationwide education charity and experts in films for young people - about the importance of watching a variety of films, supporting the charity’s mission to broaden young people’s diet of film watching.

The actress - who has appeared in some of the biggest teen films of recent years, including the High School Musical trilogy, Bandslam and Sucker Punch - said; "Watching a wide range of films gives you more knowledge - it opens your eyes to different aspects of life that you probably wouldn’t normally ponder yourself."

She added; "It’s an amazing creative outlet, it allows you to inspire your mind and think about different things - it’s a getaway. Watching movies is an amazing escape from your present. It allows you to kind of be free."

The teen star also revealed what she believes is the secret to a good teen film; "Honestly, I think a good romance! It’s so much fun when you get to watch a film that takes you out of your situation and allows you to fully emerge yourself in to a beautiful love story."

FILMCLUB sent along Young Ambassador Shaguftah, 15, to interview the starlet about her role in the film, in which she stars alongside British actor Alex Pettyfer.

Commenting on her experience, Shaguftah said; "I enjoyed this because it's the first assignment I have done so far and I hope I'll be doing a lot more after this.

"Meeting Vanessa Hudgens was amazing. It's the best thing I have done so far and it was just really nice to meet her, she's such a nice person, it still seems so unreal.

"Being a Young Ambassador I feel so lucky because it's so great to have an opportunity to do something like this I'm just really, really grateful to FILMCLUB so thank you so much."

As a modern re-telling of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairytale, Beastly follows a long tradition of fairytales being brought to life on the big screen.

Beastly is released 22nd April.
