Twilight Saga: Eclipse has the biggest opening movie of 2010 in UK as it took £13.7 million at the box office this weekend.
The record was previously held by Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland, which enjoyed a £10 million opening record but that has now been eclipsed by the latest Twilight movie.
Fans have flocked to see the third instalment of the Stephenie Meyers adaptations, which see Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart reprise the role of lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
Bella and Edward have been reunited, but their forbidden relationship is threatened to be torn apart again with an evil vampire still seeking her revenge.
And Bella is forced to choose between her true love for Edward or her friendship with Jacob Black as the struggles between vampires and werewolves continues. But there is still another choice for Bella to make, mortality or immortality?
Last week's number one Shrek Forever After had to settle for a distant second as it took a further £4.5 million this weekend.
Predators was another new entry at three as Adrien Brody stepped into the action blockbuster as it also enjoyed a healthy £2.2 million box office take.
Get Him To The Greek dropped two places from two to four while there was also a two place drop for Killers and Sex and the City 2 as they finished the week at five and six.
But this week's biggest faller came in the form of I Hate Love Stories as it dropped three places from five to eight. Prince of Persia is still inside the top ten at this week's nine.
A third new entry rounded off the top ten as Milenge Milenge was straight in at number ten.
