Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy has toppled The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader from the top of the box office to snatch the number one spot.

The UK may be in the middle of a cold snap but that didn't stop fans from flocking to the cinema to watch the sequel to the 1982 classic.

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years.

Along with Kevin's loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

The movie, which sees Jeff Bridges return to the role of Kevin Flynn, took £1.9 million to seize control of the box office.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader fell just a single place to number two as it was the only other movie to break the £1 million barrier this weekend.

The top five was rounded off by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Tourist and Megamind who all dropped a single place to end the week at three, four and five.

Burlesque, which sees Christina Aguilera make her big screen debut alongside Cher and Stanley Tucci, was the second highest new entry at number six.

Animation film Animals United was new at seven while Fred: The Movie was the four and final film inside the top ten this week at number eight.

Unstoppable and Due Date were the two biggest fallers this week, both down four, as they finished at nine and ten.
