Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 has stormed to a UK box office record as it took the top spot with a £21 million opening weekend.

It's been eleven years since we last saw Woody, Buzz and co on the big screen and it seems the franchise's popularity hasn't diminished as fans flocked to cinemas to the long awaited third movie.

It's the biggest opening total of 2010 and is the biggest film opening ever in July but has to settle for second biggest UK opening total behind Prisoner of Azkaban from the Harry Potter series.

Andy is now 17 and ready to head off to college, leaving Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the toy-box gang to ponder their uncertain futures.

When the toys are accidentally donated to the Sunnyside Daycare centre they're initially overjoyed to once again be played with, but their enthusiasm quickly gives way to horror as they discover the true nature of the establishment under the rule of the deceptively welcoming "Lotso" Bear.

Now, all of the toys must band together in one final, crazy scheme to escape their confines and return home to Andy.

Last week's number one Inception dropped to number two and has so far taken over $226 million at the global box office in the few weeks that it has been on release.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse held onto third spot while there was a two place drop for Shrek Forever After at number four. There was a second new entry inside the top five as Catherine Zeta Jones returned to the big screen with The Rebound which opened at five.

Predators dropped two from last week's four to this week's six while Khatta Meetha was new at seven. It's been a successful summer all round for Adrien Brody as his new movie Splice opened at nine, he has two movies now inside the top ten.

This week's biggest faller came in the form of Get Him To The Greek which dropped three places from five to eight.
