Tom Hardy admits that he wanted to be much skinnier to take on the role of Forrest Bondurant in Lawless but he was preparing for Batman.
The actor was in Cannes over the weekend to promote Lawless, an adaptation or the novel The Wettest County In the World, which is directed by John Hillcoat.
And the actor reveals that he was training for the role of Bane throughout the Lawless shoot and so he was physically bigger than he had intended.
Speaking to Vulture the actor said: "I wanted to be skinny. Skinny, like I am now - maybe a little skinnier. But Batman came in, and then I needed to be bigger.
"I had six months to train, but there was a three-month period where Lawless was being filmed, so I had to train during Lawless. So that's why I was physically the size that I was.
"Luckily Shia [LaBeouf] was physically big as well so it kind of worked, but I would have preferred to be more Billy Bob Thornton-sized."
Lawless sees Hardy teams up with Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman for the new movie, which is set during the American depression.
