Tom Hanks says that he wants to see something brand new when he goes to the cinema and he believes that Cloud Atlas will deliver just that.
The actor lead an all star ensemble cast next year as David Mitchell's novel has been adapted for the big screen.
The movie sees Hanks take on a series of different characters in the movie as the film moves through different periods of time.
Speaking to The Associated Press the actor said: "There are going to be people out there who are going to say, `Who do they think they are to make this movie like this?'
"That's been the case with every great film. They said the same thing about The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in the silent days."
"I think every audience is yearning to be surprised. I am bored when I walk into the theatre expecting A, B and C, and a movie delivers A, B and C.
"I want to see something brand new that I never anticipated coming a hundred million miles away. And my God, that happens before the words Cloud Atlas appear up on the screen on this one."
Cloud Atlas has been directed by Tom Tyker and Andy & Lana Wachowski while Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon are just some of the other names on the cast list.
Cloud Atlas is released 22nd February.
