Tom Hanks has revealed that he and Tim Allen fought to get Toy Story 2 released in cinemas.
The 1999 release of Toy Story 2 almost didn't go ahead according to Hanks as it was scheduled to go straight to DVD. But Allen and Hanks, who voice the characters of Buzz Lightyear and Woody, wanted a proper theatrical release of the movie.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror the Oscar winning actor said: "Tim and I and everybody else connected with it wanted to know why. We said it should be released as a film because it was magnificent and as good as the first one.
"Usually sequels are pale imitations and are slapped on video but this was really great. Eventually they bowed to some brand of common sense so now we have a Toy Story 3 and will there be a fourth Toy Story? Why not?"
And eleven years after that release Woody, Buzz and co are back for a third outing as Toy Story 3 hit UK cinemas next week, after topping the box office in America.
It's the first movie for Hanks since reprising the role of Robert Langdon in Angels and Demons last year, although he did narrate The Pacific earlier this year.
Hanks has already filmed Larry Crowne, in which he plays the title character, with Julia Roberts and Taraji P. Henson and will return to the character of Langdon for The Lost Symbol.
Toy Story 3 is released 19th July.
