Tom Felton has described The Rise of the Planet of the Apes a wakeup call.

Felton may be enjoying huge box office success with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 but the actor is set to leave the franchise behind for new movie The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

The movie is an origins story of the previous 'Apes' movies and Felton people should sit up and take note of the message in the movie.

Speaking to MTV News the actor said: "There's a mix of fantastic CGI and amazing effects that we've never seen onscreen before.

"Along with a strong story and a strong message that humans can't play God too much; we should not overstep our bounds when it comes to Mother Nature.

"We ruin it all. We are our own cause of destruction, which is quite an insight, I think.

"Hopefully, it is a wakeup call for the world so we don't overstep our boundaries."

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes has given Felton his second #1 movie of the year in the U.S. as he joins an all star cast of James Franco, Frieda Pinto and Andy Serkis.

Felton has already completed work on From The Rough and The Apparition and has Grace and Danger and Evac in the pipeline.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is released 12th August.
