Tim Burton has admitted that Nigella Lawson was the inspiration for the character White Queen in his latest movie Alice In Wonderland.

The director adapts the popular story for the big screen and Anne Hathaway takes on the role of the White Queen.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the filmmaker said: "There's this very beautiful cooking show host in England named Nigella Lawson and I quietly had her as my image for this character.

"She's really beautiful and she does all this cooking, but then there's this glint in her eye and when you see it you go, 'Oh, whoa, she's like really... nuts'.

"I mean in a good way. Well, maybe. I don't know."

The movie follows 19-year-old Alice who returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror.

The movie brings together a great cast of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen, Matt Lucas and introducing Mia Wasikowska.

Alice In Wonderland is released 5th March.
