The Hangover

The Hangover

The Hangover has become the first surprise hit at the box office so far this year as it hung onto the top spot for a second week.

The comedy was originally placed at number two last week behind Pixar movie Up but after a recalculating of the figures the stole the number one spot.

With a further $33.4 million it narrowly held the lead beating of competition from the popular animation movie.

Up had to once again be content with the number two spot and the teaming up of Denzel Washington and John Travolta was not enough to secure the #1 spot as The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 had to be content with third.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian enjoyed a fourth week inside the top five at number four while Land of the Lost rounded off the top five.

The Will Ferrell movie has been a disappointment for Universal as it grossed only $9.2 million in it's second week on the chart.

Imagine That has is another box office let down for funnyman Eddie Murphy, it looks like his days of cinema gold are well and truly gone.

Grossing a very disappointing $5.7 million Imagine That could only manage number six and was the second of only two new entries this week.

1. The Hangover, $33.4 million
2. Up , $30.5 million
3. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
4. Night at the Museum: Battles of the Smithsonian, $ 9.6 million
