Opening to UK audiences this Wednesday 22nd July, Sandra Bullock’s very decent “Proposal” proves that she is at the top of her game.
This weekend, The Proposal crossed $128m at the US box office, beating Bullock’s previous topper, Speed, which made $121m.
And with audiences talking up The Proposal’s smart, sexy and sassy comedy, and driving the box office success, the film looks set to entertain all summer long.
As one of Hollywood’s most successful female stars, Bullock has a string of number one hit movies behind her, from popular classics such as Speed through to Miss Congeniality.
But it is her latest screwball comedy, The Proposal, that guarantees her position as leading talent at the box office, with her biggest movie release ever.
Bullock’s co-star Ryan Reynolds is also enjoying the spotlight as this summer’s hot new male lead with films such as Wolverine and Adventureland (Sept 11th) under his belt.
When high-powered book editor Margaret (Bullock) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she’s actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (Reynolds), who she’s tormented for years.
He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another.
With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences.
