The King's Speech has been tipped as an early Oscar favourite after it was crowned the top movie at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The picture, starring Colin Firth as Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, was honoured with The People's Choice Award at the Canadian event on Sunday (19Sep10).
Previous recipients of the honour include American Beauty and Slumdog Millionaire - which both went on to win the coveted Best Picture prize at the Academy Awards.
And the film's director Tom Hooper is delighted with the Toronto accolade.
He says, "I am so proud that people responded to the film in such a positive way."
Other films honoured at the close of the annual ceremony included The First Grader, Beautiful Boy and documentary Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie.
The King's Speech comes just months after Firth picked up his first Best Actor Oscar nomination for his last acting role A Single Man.
The King's Speech is released 7th January.
