The Hunger Games has stayed at the top of the U.S. box office for a third consecutive week as it took a further $33.5 million.

The Hunger Games has dominated the global box office for the last three weeks as it has been a critical as well as a commercial success.

This week it was revealed that the second and third novels are going to be adapted for the big screen but director Gary Ross will not be at the helm.

American Reunion was the highest new entry on the chart this week at number three while Titanic 3D opened at number three - they were the only two new entries inside the top ten this week.

Wrath of the Titans fell two places to four while Mirror Mirror was also down two to round off the top five.

21 Jump Street and Dr Seuss’ The Lorax both fell two places and out of the top five at six and seven while Salmon Fishing in the Yemen was down just one place at eight.

John Carter was the biggest faller this week as it dropped three places to nine and Safe House was up two from twelve to ten.
