The Dark Knight Rises has broken through the billion dollar mark at the global box office.
The movie is the third and final of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies and it the second to hit $1 billion as it follows in the footsteps of The Dark Knight back in 2008.
This sees The Dark Knight Rises become the second biggest movies of 2012 after the success of Avengers Assemble earlier this summer.
The worldwide gross of $1,005,196,000 sees The Dark Knight Rises beat its predecessor as it becomes the twelfth biggest grossing movie of all time and one of just thirteen films to achieve this feat.
And there was good news for Avengers Assemble this weekend as it passed through the $1.5 billion mark - well and truly securing its place as the third biggest movie of all time.
But there are some big movies to come this autumn/winter with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey yet to be released.
Both movies will be looking to do well at the box office and my challenge Avengers Assemble and The Dark Knight Rises as the top two movies of 2012.
