The Avengers has spent a third week at the top of the U.S. box office taking a further $55 million.
The movie has now taken in excess of $450 million at the U.S. box office alone and it is not the fourth biggest grossing movie of all time have taken $1,18 billion worldwide.
Battleship was the highest new entry at the box office this week as it opened at number two with $25.3 million.
The movie is the latest project from Peter Berg and sees him team up with Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgard.
The Dictator was also new this week at number four while Dark Shadows fell two places to number four.
Comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting is the third and final new entry on the chart this week at number five.
The movie brings together an impressive ensemble cast that includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was up again this week as it climbed two more places from eight to number six while The Hunger Games fell three places out of the top five to number seven.
Think Like A Man was the biggest faller this week as it dropped five places to eight while The Lucky One was down four at number nine.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits rounded off the top ten this week as it dropped three places from last weeks' number seven
