Henry Selick has revealed that Teri Hatcher found it difficult to be mean in new movie Coraline.
Speaking to Digital Spy he said: "Teri's fantastic. She has a lot of range. The main thing with Teri was that it was difficult for her to be mean, because she has a great daughter and could never be that way to her own daughter."
"She was ready to take charge of the Other Mother at her most wicked and most evil," he commented. "I think that was the most fun for her."
The Desperate Housewives actress voiced the character of Coraline's mother in the stop motion animation picture.
The movie follows a young girl who walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life.
Coraline is out in cinemas now.
