Zack Snyder believes that 3D just 'didn't feel right' for his new movie Sucker Punch.
The first trailer for the movie, which is the first totally original film from the director, was shown at Comic Con this weekend as Snyder brings together a largely female cast of Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone and Carla Gugino.
And while the filmmaker admits to toying with the idea of making a 3D movie he felt that 2d worked better for his new film.
Speaking at Comic Con he said: "When we started talking about it, I had a certain idea of how I wanted to move the camera and I had a certain idea of how I wanted the film to feel.
"I am a fan of 3D. Legends is all 3D. It was conceived in 3D and, if anyone has seen it, I think the 3d is pretty friggin' awesome. If I do say so myself.
"We did talk about and, in the press, there was word that we were going to do it in 3D. We really were considering it. But we had seen a bunch of tests and conversion didn't sit with me that great.
"Without being baked in, it just felt a little weird. But they also showed me a test of 300 that was pretty awesome. But it didn't feel right for this movie. It's in eye-numbing 2D, which is also awesome.
Snyder is famed for his producing movies with striking special effects, 300 and Watchmen being two great examples, and Sucker Punch looks to be following the same path.
The movie is the first for the director since Watchmen last year but is set to turn his hand to animation with Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, which is out in October.
Sucker Punch will be released next year.
