Steven Spielberg has described Lincoln as unlike anything he has ever directed before.
The filmmaker is back in the director’s chair in the new year as he brings the latter years of Lincoln’s life to the big screen.
And Spielberg admits that he is glad that he has been able to make a different kind of movie - even if that will not please some of his fans.
Speaking to Empire the filmmaker said: "It’s nice at 65 that after 28 movies I can really say I made a movie unlike anything I’ve ever directed.
"And if people want to see it because they hear it is not typical of my work, I’ll fully accept that. I’m not a barker. I can’t sit outside the tent with a bullhorn. They either will or they won’t."
Spielberg is being tipped for a Best Director Oscar nod but he will face some tough competition from the likes of Tom Hooper and Ben Affleck who are also expected to be in contention.
Lincoln is the first directorial outing for Spielberg since War Horse at the beginning of the year but he is set to get straight back into the chair as filming on Robopocalypse is set to get underway shortly.
Lincoln is released 25th January.
