Steven Spielberg has described War Horse as a 'passion project' for him.
The Oscar winning filmmaker is back in the director's chair in the new year to bring the novel and stage show to the big screen.
The movie is already being tipped to be amongst those fighting it out for Best Picture at the Oscars in 2012.
And Spielberg admits that it was a project that moved very quickly as he was keen to get it into production as soon as possible.
The movie has it's world premiere in New York at the weekend where Spielberg was joined on the big screen by stars Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston, Emily Watson and David Thewlis.
War Horse comes hot off the heels of the success of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Spielberg's first directorial outing since Indiana Jones in 2008.
War Horse is released 13th January
