Steve Carell has revealed that he had not plans on being a leading man he just wanted to get an acting job.

The funnyman has seen his career soar in recent years with the likes of 40 year Old Virgin, Little Miss Sunshine, Anchorman and the American version of The Office under his belt.

And while all this success has come his way Carell revealed that all he ever wanted to do was just make a living from acting.

Speaking to the Guardian the actor said: "I dreamt of being employed. I set the bar there for myself. I dreamt of being able to make a living doing something that I love.

"And that really does make me happy and is fun. Being a leading man. that's like saying I want to be astronaut. That's not going to happen."

And despite all the success that has come the actor's way in recent year he admits that he still gets uncomfortable talking about his work.

"I always feel so pretentious talking about comedy and deconstructing it. It always feels somehow self-centred to talk about any sort of process. A lot of it is just trying stuff and having the freedom to attempt something and fail."

Carell reunite with his Anchorman co-star Paul Rudd for new movie Dinner For Schmucks and has already completed work on Crazy, Stupid, Love.
