Stephen Merchant admits that he is never worried about reviews.
The actor once again joined forces with Ricky Gervais earlier in the year as they wrote and directed Cemetery Junction, which received mixed reviews from the critics.
Speaking to Metro he said: "I don't know what I'm supposed to do with a review. It's a bit late, they should have got in touch before we made it."
"I read reviews when The Office first happened but it doesn't matter if everyone loves it or everyone hates it, there's nothing I can do about it.
"If you're sitting in an edit suite trying to make the end of a film work you're not thinking, 'I wonder what the guy from The Telegraph's going to think'."
"You're working on instinct."
As well as writing and directing Merchant also starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Julie Andrews in the family friendly The Tooth Fairy back in May and has a string of roles in the pipeline.
He has completed work on Burke and Hare, which stars Andy Serkis and Simon Pegg, Gnomeo and Juliet with Jason Statham, Michael Caine and Maggie Smith as well as the voices of Emily Blunt and James McAvoy.
