Stephen Fry has admitted that he is a long standing Sherlock Holmes fan and was thrilled to be cast at Mycroft.
Guy Ritchie is returning for a sequel to the hit 2009 movie - which will see Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law returning to the characters of Holmes and Watson.
And Fry will take on the role of Mycroft, Holmes' brother, who he has hinted is a very 'lazy' character.
In a chat with Total Film the actor said: "I play Mycroft. He's Holmes's smarter brother, but he's so lazy, he never gets the reputation that Sherlock does.
"It's a very interesting character and fun to play, especially as I've been a Sherlock Holmes fan since I was a boy."
We haven't seen Fry on the big screen since he appeared in House of Boys back in 2009, however he did lend his voice to the Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is released 16th December.
