Katy Perry has agreed to take on the role in a kids' cartoon to be the voice of Smurfette.
The singer has signed up for The Smurfs movie and will star alongside Alan Cumming, who himself has been blue when starring in the super hero movie X-Men 2. Cumming will voice Gutsy Smurf with Papa Smurf being played by Jonathan Winters, an 84-year-old actor who featured in the original Eighties telly cartoon. Neil Patrick Harris plays the only live human interaction in the film.
In case you didn't know, The Smurfs are those lovable small blue creatures first introduced as a series of illustrated comic strips by the Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford, also known as Peyo, in the 1950s. Several decades later, the series was adapted into an children's TV series by Hanna-Barbera Productions.
