Simon Pegg has announced that the new Star Trek movie is everything that Star Wars: Phantom Menace should have been.
The British funnyman landed the role of Scotty, originally played by James Doohan, in J.J. Abrams' movie, which is the eleventh movie in the Star Trek franchise.
Speaking at the UK press conference for the film Pegg said: "In Spaced there's a line where I'm talking about things that are sure in life, and one of them is that every odd numbered Star Trek film is sh*t.
"That's not true anymore! That's most certainly been disproved by this movie and it's lovely to be part of it."
He added: "I think if I was still doing Spaced now there would be an entire episode dedicated to how Tim Bisley, my character, would just be orgasmic about this movie.
"This is everything he wanted [Star Wars: The Phantom Menace] to be but wasn't. And the irony of being in it now - being part of it - is not lost on me, I can assure you."
Pegg joins Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana and Zoe Saldana in the film which takes the franchise right back to the beginning as the crew of the Enterprise set off on their maiden voyage.
Star Trek is released 8th May.
