Shawn Levy has revealed that there is more to his new movie Real Steel than just fighting robots.
Levy is back in the director’s chair for the Steven Spielberg produced film that stars Hugh Jackman as a washed up boxing promoter in a world where robots dominate.
And while the movie does feature robots going head to head in the boxing ring the heart of the film is a relationship between a father and his young son.
In an interview with Empire the filmmaker said: “This is really an emotional father-son drama and it’s much more Rocky and Paper Moon than it is Terminator Salvation.
“I made it clear in my first meeting with Steven (Spielberg) and Dreamworks that if they want a cool robot movie I wouldn’t be that guy. But if they want one with a warm-hearted centre that I know how to do.”
Shawn Levy was last seen in the director’s chair with comedy Date Night, which topped the box office earlier this year, and is currently working on Real Steel.
The Hardy Men has another comedy in the pipeline which will see Tom Cruise team up with Ben Stiller.
Real Steel will be released in 2011.
