Sean Penn has revealed that he did not base his character in new movie This Must Be The Place on rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
The two time Oscar winner is back on the big screen in the Paolo Sorrentino directed project as a retired rocker who sets out to find his father executioner.
Speaking at the speaking at the press conference for the movie Cannes Film Festival the actor said: "No, he didn't get in my mind, but there's something - I can't say it enough.
"Palo has a very original mind and when looking to track those things that might serve this movie I tended to look to him."
"I think that rock 'n' roll has a place that's very important. It counters what I think has become the disease that has plagued society.
"That this movie, taking on the matters of one's own purpose and soul and history and compromises and some kind of pursuit to break through a depression - that's what rock 'n' roll always has been. "
This Must Be The Place was in the running for the Palme d'Or - but Penn lost out to his own movie The Tree of Life - which was directed by Terrence Malick.
