Into The Wild, from actor turned director Sean Penn, leads the way in this years Critics' Choice Awards with seven nominations.The film, which follows Christopher McCandless, played by Emile Hirsch, as he walks out on his privileged life to hitchhike to Alaska, earned a nomination for best picture, and best director and writer for Sean Penn.Another film to do well ws Juno, which concentrates on a teenager's unplanned pregnancy, earned six nominations including best picture.Atonement, Hairspray, Michael Clayton, No Country For Old Men and Sweeney Todd all earned five nods each.Cate Blanchett managed to secure two seperate acting nominations: Best Actress for the reprisal of her role as elizabeth I and a Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Bob Dylan Biopic I'm Not There.Juno's Ellen Page joins Blanchett for Best Actress alongside Angelina Jolie, Amy Adams, Julie Chritsie and Marion Cotillard.Four of the six nominated acors are all previous Oscar nominess: George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Daniel Day Lewis and Ryan Gosling. They are joined by Emile Hirsch and Viggo Mortensen.But it is Best Picture that is the most fiercely fought category with ten film making the shortlist, making it one of the largest contender pools for any major awards show.
