Sam Worthington wanted Clash of the Titans to deliver a good message to kids.
The actor revealed that he wanted the film to suitable with for his nine year old nephew and was uncomfortable with the message that the original film portrayed.
Speaking to Contactmusic the actor said: "I've got a nine-year-old nephew who I love dearly. In the original the character Perseus loves being part of the Gods and he loves the God toys.
"I thought that was a really bad message to give to a nine-year-old, that you can only achieve something that you are a God.
"So we really pulled out the thing that... if you do this journey as a man and pull something in yourself you can pull out something that is strong. I think that is a great message."
Clash of the Titans is the return to the big screen for Worthington since his success with Avatar as he takes on the central role of Perseus.
The movie is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name this time with Louis Leterrier in the director's chair.
Clash of the Titans kicks off a busy 2010 for the actor he is currently filming The Tourist with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.
He also has a string of projects in pre production including The Debt, The Candidate and The Texas Killing Fields.
Clash of the Titans is released 2nd April.
