Sam Mendes says that Skyfall will nod back to the complex Bond character that Ian Fleming created in his novels.
The director along with the cast gathered in Istanbul to discuss the new movie and Mendes reveals that he was keen to explore the many layer of 007, not just the fact that he is a killer and a ladies man.
And Mendes went on to say that he believed that Daniel Craig is an actor who was capable of stripping back the layers of this character.
Speaking at the press conference the filmmaker said: "You always go back to Fleming because the character Fleming created over a number of novels was incredibly complex.
"Some people sometimes forget in the cliche of Bond, which is the international playboy, and someone who's always untroubled, and almost never breaks a sweat, that actually what [Fleming] created was a very conflicted character.
"That makes him a much more interesting character, and some of those things are explored in this movie, because Daniel [Craig] as an actor is capable of exploring them."
This is a first Bond movie for Mendes but a second movie with Craig after filming Road To Perdition together.
Skyfall will be the third outing as 007 for the British actor and this will be the first Bond movie since Quantum Of Solace.
Sky fall is released 26th October.
