Sally Hawkins

Sally Hawkins has revealed that she is always worrying that she has messed up her performance whist filming a movie.

The British actress is back on the big screen this week in Made In Dagenham, a movie which looks at 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination.

And while Hawkins' career is on the rise she admits that she still worries about her performances.

She told The Scotsman newspaper: "I don't know if I know yet. You think, 'That was ok in that bit' or 'I really f***ed up there'.

"You just hope that you'll be better next time or that you'll get a next time.

"There are always things you can work on. Some things are more successful that others but really, all you know is what you like and what makes it sort of work for you."

Hawkins broke through in 2008 with her role in Happy Go Lucky, a performance which brought her a Golden Globe but she admits that she isn't getting carried away with her leading lady role in her new movie.

"I think if you indulge in that then it's a very slippery road and you'll probably trip yourself up. It's part of the job.

"There will come a time when it's not happening and it'll be lovely to look back and have that experience.

"But it is tricky and you have to remember that it's going to be ok. And for a while you just have to walk past those posters. But they're nice for my mum to have!"

And Hawkins will be back on the big screen in the new year as she stars alongside Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield in Never Let Me Go.

Made In Dagenham is released 1st October.
