Sally Hawkins reveals that she was surprised that people got angry when she was snubbed by the Oscars for her performance in Happy Go Lucky.
The British actress picked up a Golden Globe for her performance in the Mike Leigh movie but missed on a Best Actress Oscar nod.
And the actress admits that she was happy with winning the Golden Globe and possibly may not have coped with earning and Oscar nomination.
Speaking to MSN Movies the actress said: "It was kind of, well, I've got a Globe. What more do I need? Then people were outraged on my behalf, which was lovely, but I thought, well, I'm doing OK, you know?
"I haven't done badly. But it was very nice that people were outraged, and to even have been in those lists of contenders was mind-blowing for me.
"So no, I was very happy. I mean, the Golden Globes? God knows what the Oscars would have been like. I mean, my heart would have exploded, I think."
And the actress has received more praise this year for her central performance in Made In Dagenham and she will be back on the big screen in the new year with Never let Me Go.
