Sally Field has described Mary Todd as one of the most misunderstood characters in American history.
The two time Oscar winner is set to play the First Lady in Steven Spielberg's biopic movie Lincoln - which focuses on the President's fight to end slavery and the Civil War.
And Field said that getting involved in the project was an easy decision to make.
Speaking to The Observer the actress said: "Mary Todd was one of the most misunderstood and maligned women characters in American history."
"And it was Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis, (screenwriter) Tony Kushner... This is a once-in-a-lifetime gift. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of it?"
Field takes on the role of Todd in the movie while fellow two time Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis will play husband Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln is a movie that is gaining momentum ahead of the award's season and looks set to be one of the major runners and riders as the gongs start to be handed out.
Lincoln is released 25th January.
