Ryan Gosling has admitted that he was 'ready to play a psycho' with his new movie Drive.

The actor returns to the big screen this week with the new project from filmmaker Nicholas Winding Refn - which also stars Carey Mulligan

Gosling plays an unnamed stunt driver in the movie who moonlights as a getaway driver - but a contract is put out on him when a heist goes wrong.

Speaking to MTV News the actor said: "I don't know, I just felt ready to play a psycho.

"What I was really focused on was making a violent John Hughes movie. I love Pretty in Pink but I always wished there was some blood with the cotton candy.

"So when I met Nicholas, he had the same fantasy too, so we just tried to go down that road."

Drive is just one of two Gosling movies that will grace the big screen this week as he also stars in comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love alongside Steve Carell.

He has also completed work on Ides of March, which was directed by and also stars George Clooney.

Drive is released 23rd September.
