Russell Brand sniffed alcohol on the set of his new movie Arthur to help him portray the drunken playboy without touching a drop of booze.
The British actor is stepping into the role made famous by Dudley Moore in a remake of the popular 1981 film, opposite Jennifer Garner and Helen Mirren.
Brand has battled drug and alcohol addiction in the past and recalled his wild ways for the role by inhaling the smell of alcohol while on set, according to the film's director Jason Winer.
He tells Empire magazine, "He sniffs alcohol to give himself a sense memory of what those days were like."
And Winer insists there was never any danger of Brand relapsing while filming.
He adds, "Russell's been sober for years so we're not worried."
