Rupert Wyatt has dropped some hints of what a second 'Apes' movie could explore.

The British filmmaker is enjoying box office success in the U.S. with The Rise of the Planet of the Apes and has already said that he would like to return.

And it appears that the director has already given some thought as to what direction he would like the movie to take.

Speaking to Bleeding Cool the filmmaker said: "You could start this story again eight years from where we left off.

"[We could have] the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going into a conflict with humans and showing real fear in the same way as going into war [is] for young soldiers in this day and age."

"Or how apes are taking over cities and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them. Having to deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them.

"[There could be] spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans who may be existing underground, because that's a way they can avoid the virus. They could come up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that's what dehumanises them."

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the latest addition to the popular 'Apes' franchise and brings together a great cast of James Franco, Brian Cox and Frieda Pinto.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is released 12th August.
