New research has revealed the British public’s top ten favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, with Ron Weasley beating Harry Potter himself to the top spot.
It would appear that the most popular Harry Potter character amongst the British public isn’t in fact the main man himself, as a new poll has revealed that Ron Weasley is the most popular character in the Harry Potter series; with Harry being beaten to third place in the popularity stakes.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lord Voldemort also topped the charts as the nation’s least favourite Harry Potter character.
1, 239 Britons who were familiar with the Harry Potter films/ books subsequently took part, asked questions surrounding who their favourite characters were.
Respondents were asked to state who their favourite Harry Potter character was, to which the top ten answers were as follows:
1. Ron Weasley – 16%
2. Sirius Black – 15%
3. Harry Potter – 12%
4. Hermione Granger – 10%
5. Professor Dumbledore – 9%
6. Hagrid – 8%
7. Dobby – 7%
8. Professor Snape – 5%
9. Draco Malfoy – 3%
10. Professor McGonagall – 2%
Those polled were asked to stipulate why they chose the character that they voted for as their favourite. The majority, 57% of those that said Ron Weasley was their favourite said it was because he was ‘funny’.
When asked to vote for their least favourite character, Lord Voldemort topped the list with 24% of the votes.
According to the results, the top five least favourite characters from the Harry Potter series were as follows:
1. Lord Voldemort – 24%
2. Bellatrix Lestrange – 16%
3. Lucius Malfoy – 13%
4. Dudley Dursley – 9%
5. Fenrir Greyback – 6%
