Robert Pattinson has revealed that he used to think that he couldn't act.
The British actor has shot to global fame in the last twelve months due to the release of Twilight last year in which he takes on the role of vampire Edward Cullen.
The movie is an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's popular novels and the movie was an instant box office hit. The sequel New Moon is released later this month.
But Pattinson was plagued with self doubt in an interview with the News of the World he said: "Dad was in a restaurant and saw a bunch of pretty girls and decided to go up and ask where they'd been. They said they went to this drama club, so he said we'd better go down too!
"I said to my manager, 'I can't do that thing where someone comes up behind you and you look scared'. And he said, 'What? Acting?'. And I was like, 'That's it! I can't do that!'."
Over the past year Pattinson has gained many female admirers and he admitted that he still finds all the female attention a little strange.
"All the screaming is so bizarre. It's a scream of wanting, but I have absolutely no idea what they want. How can I satisfy that?
"When there are girls standing there trembling and crying, that's a very strange thing to be a part of. Girls scream for [Twilight character] Edward, not Robert. I still can't get a date!"
And the handsome actor is going to be a firm fixture on the big screen over the coming months with Eclipse, the third movie in the Twilight Saga, due for release in the summer of 2010 and Breaking Dawn in the pipeline.
New Moon is released 20th November
