After the strong opening weekend Marvel has confirmed plans for an Iron Man 2 with actor Robert Downey Jr reportedly already signed up for the sequel.The film came just the tenth picture to break the $100 million barrier in it's opening weekend, exceeding expectations.The film sees Downey Jr take on the role of Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons manufacturer, who, after being kidnapped and injured in Afghanistan, builds a suit of armour transforming him into a superhero.Kevin Feige, head of production for Marvel Studios told the BBC: "It's great to see a sold-out audience that you know is made up of comic book fans and people who had never read an Iron Man comic in their life."The film also sees Downey Jr kick start his career after suffering for many years with a serious drug addiction, for which he did a spell in prison.Iron Man 2 is expected to hit cinemas in 2010 alongside a string of other Marvel projects including Thor and Captain America.Marvel Comic movies have been a favourite with cinema goers in recent years with the like of Spiderman and X-Men doing well at the box office.FemaleFirst Helen Earnshaw
