Robert Downey Jr has described The Avengers as 'ambitious'.
The actor is set to reprise the role of Iron Man in the Joss Whedon movie, that bring together a whole host of Marvel stars.
and the actor admits that he has had to continue to push his character of Tony Stark forward and not forget what he created in the standalone movies.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "Is it really possible [to create a movie like The Avengers]? I just think that it was an incredibly ambitious notion.
"I'm still trying to, without moving backwards, remember the character that [Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director] Jon Favreau and I created, and be true to that."
This is the first time that Downey Jr has played the role of Iron Man since Iron Man 2 back in 2010.
He is set to reprise the character once more for a third solo outing, but this time around Shane Black will be in the director's chair.
This movie would reunite the director with the leading man after the pair worked together on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
The Avengers is released 27th April.
